Simplify the panel layout
Broad flat areas, vertical grooves and limited panel divisions create a contemporary read. The design should still relate to window proportions and the scale of the façade.
Avoid adding every available feature. One strong element—colour, glass or hardware—is often more effective than several competing accents.

Use a small number of strong lines that align with the home’s windows and façade.
Vertical glass
Adds daylight while preserving more solid door area and a contemporary proportion.
Bold colour
Lets a simple slab become the focal point without extra decorative components.
Clean hardware
Choose handles and locks for operation, reach and security as well as appearance.
Use glass deliberately
A narrow vertical insert can bring light without dominating the slab. Sidelights can move the glass outside the active leaf and create a different balance of privacy and view.
Clear, frosted and patterned glass respond differently after dark. Review the sightline from the sidewalk and the location of the lock.
Keep hardware practical
Long pull handles create a modern appearance but may change latch operation, accessibility and weather-seal compression. Confirm how the door actually locks and closes.
Threshold, closer, smart-lock and storm-door compatibility should be addressed before hardware is selected only from a photograph.
